Davy N'Goma, the Amiens-trained forward who has criss-crossed Europe to keep his career alive, is now holed up in Manama after Iranian strikes hit Bahrain on 28 February. He described seeing explosions from his apartment, L'Équipe reports.

Raised in Mantes-la-Jolie, he joined Amiens at 17 and made a three-minute debut against Red Star. Soon after he was released without a clear reason, and Tanguy Ndombele, now at Nice, recalls his speed and one against one threat, adding that the division’s physicality may have hindered him.

Stints in France’s lower tiers followed, bringing more setbacks. Without a club at 25, he stepped away before scoring eight in a low-key friendly in the Paris region that rekindled belief.

He then drove his Peugeot 207 to Czech side Blansko for an unannounced trial, earned a deal of around 1,200 euros a month, then moved on to Racing Union Luxembourg and Romania with Botosani and Hermannstadt, where he felt the game was quicker and the mentality did not demand players accept poor conditions.

By 30 he had found stability at Budaiya in the Bahraini top flight, taking set pieces, mid-table, a modern flat and a comfortable wage, and admitted he might have come sooner. Since the bombings he has stayed indoors, leaving once to see a doctor. The Bahrain FA has postponed all fixtures and team training until further notice, Budaiya sit seventh of 12 with seven rounds left, players on home programmes, and with no flights he says they are waiting.
