The Celtic skipper was among those calling for reinforcements during the transfer window, as important positions remained unaddressed and some signings were bought on deadline-day and in Kelechi Iheanacho’s case, after the window had actually shut.
Fans have voiced anger over what they view as insufficient backing and the undermining of Brendan Rodgers, particularly in the wake of the club’s Champions League playoff qualifier elimination against Kairat Almaty – who lost heavily on their Champions League debut last night. Ironically enough they were hammered 4-1 by another side wearing hoops, Sporting CP.
Callum McGregor maintains that the atmosphere in training has been upbeat since the close of the transfer window and stresses that the team remain firmly committed to achieving success.
Speaking via Daily Record ahead of Celtic’s Premier Sports League Cup trip on Sunday to Firhill against Partick Thistle, McGregor said: “I do, actually I do. Having seen the training last week and this week, there’s a real freshness, there’s a real hunger to run and work hard, and then the quality to come with that as well.”
“I think they will certainly help us. Now the window’s shut, we draw a line under what happened and we all move forward with the one goal of trying to make the club and the team as successful as we can.”
McGregor’s remarks arrive as Celtic supporters persist with demonstrations against the board, having staged a late-entry protest at Rugby Park last weekend and preparing further actions in the weeks ahead.
However, McGregor is determined to build on Celtic’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock, which returned the Hoops to the Premiership summit alongside Hearts after their comfortable 2-0 win against Russell Martin’s relegation-threatened Ibrox side.

The upcoming visit to Firhill presents another opportunity in the hunt for silverware for many of the current group of Celtic players who have done it all before, and the captain is confident his teammates are prepared to rise to the occasion and seal a place at Hampden.
