The spending of Scotland’s third-highest fee, £10M, on a nobody from Everton, looks beyond disgraceful from Kevin Thelwell. Rangers have wasted £25M.
A non-entity of a player who no one had heard of arrived for Rangers’ second-highest ever fee, with just one senior goal in British football to his name.
This act was corporate vandalism and Thelwell has been accused of ‘giving Everton a refund’ for the £10M they themselves wasted on Youssef Chermiti.
We have never before witnessed a flagrant abuse of Rangers’ finances and resources than this diabolical transfer. Bringing in a failed Everton forward and reimbursing the fortune they lost on him.
His display in Govan last night summed up how poor he is. 67% pass rate, won just 2 of his aerial duels (we were told how great in the air he was), lost the ball 10 times and offered not a single thing of note.
Is this corruption at its worst? Rangers shelling out vital finances to do a favour for Thelwell’s old team. They are now laughing all the way to the bank?
It happened for Peterborough too, Rangers gifted £4M to Barry Fry for Emmanuel Fernandez who’s barely kicked a ball for Rangers.
We couldn’t possibly call this corruption, but Rangers have wasted £25M this summer – Chermiti, Fernandez, Cortes and Aasgard. This is cash that doesn’t grow on trees yet not only are we not better, we’re far worse for it.
We can barely even articulate the utter mess our once-proud club is in.
Run by chancers, ruined by opportunists, this is worse than any ‘spiv’ era that some fans used to call out way back when.
And £10M on Chermiti is beyond words.
