‘There are formulas‘ — Joan Laporta reveals alternative plan to keep Rashford at Barcelona beyond current loan

FC Barcelona brought in the Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford on loan to strengthen their forward line in the last summer transfer window. Although the Englishman has not been a fixed starter, he has had quite an impact on the Blaugrana team, having scored 11 goals and provided 8 assists in 41 games.

As a result, the Catalans are looking to keep him permanently beyond his loan period, and for this purpose, the most obvious way would be to activate the €30 million purchase clause in his contract. However, with the club still operating under financial limitations, alternative solutions are now being considered.

One of those possibilities was recently discussed by presidential candidate Joan Laporta, who suggested a different structure to retain Rashford if he is re-elected.

The proposal would involve extending the player’s loan for another season while paying part of the €30 million purchase option now and delaying the remaining payment for a later stage.

Speaking ahead of the club elections, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Laporta explained that the final decision would also depend on sporting director Deco and the club’s sporting plans:

“We could extend the loan further; it depends on what Deco wants. There are formulas, such as paying part of the purchase option with Manchester United now and leaving the rest for later.“

Laporta also highlighted Rashford’s impact beyond the pitch, praising the player’s professionalism and influence within the squad:

”He gives us good numbers in goals and statistics, brings a positive atmosphere, and is very involved with the Foundation.”

Despite Barcelona exploring creative solutions, the stance in England could complicate negotiations as Manchester United may not be open to renegotiating the existing terms of the agreement.

As a result, while Barcelona are keen to retain Rashford for another season, the final outcome will largely depend on whether Manchester United are willing to accept a structured payment plan or another loan arrangement.
