There is still a big question mark over Georgia Stanway’s sporting future at FC Bayern. The 27-year-old midfielder’s contract expires next summer and no decision has yet been made about her future career. While the Munich side would like to extend her contract, there are now increasing indications that Stanway could be drawn back to her native England
The England international moved to Munich from Manchester City in the summer of 2022 and has since become a mainstay in the Bayern women’s team. Whether as a clearer in defensive midfield or as a driving force in important games, Stanway is a leader both athletically and mentally. FC Bayern’s interest in continuing their partnership beyond the current season is correspondingly high
According to FCBinside, initial talks have already taken place between the player and those responsible at the German champions. A contract extension is therefore by no means off the table. Stanway herself has also recently made it clear how comfortable she feels in Munich. She emphasised that she loves Bayern and that they came to Munich together to win titles and be successful. She particularly appreciates working in an environment with clear goals

At the same time, however, voices from England are also getting louder. As the BBC reports, Arsenal in particular are looking closely at the midfielder’s situation. According to BBC insider Emma Sanders, there have already been initial talks between the Gunners and Stanway’s entourage. Manchester City are also considering a return. A move back to the island would make sense for Stanway, both in sporting and personal terms – especially as she knows the Women’s Super League very well and is one of the established names there
As things stand, the situation is completely open. With her contract expiring, Stanway is in a comfortable starting position and can decide on her future in the summer on a free transfer. FC Bayern is hoping that its top performer will stay, but the competition from England is prominent – and the poker for Georgia Stanway is likely to intensify in the coming months.
