Jonas Wind's spell at VfL Wolfsburg appears to be coming to an end – with a transfer likely to happen either in the winter or next summer, when his contract with the Bundesliga outfit expires.
Speaking to Danish broadcaster TV 2, the 26-year-old striker confirmed he is open to a move during the winter transfer window.
“There’s not much time left, and this is close to Wolfsburg’s last chance to get at least some money for me. That last opportunity comes in the winter. I know that, and of course Wolfsburg knows it too,” Wind said.
However, Wind stressed that a move will only happen in the winter if the right opportunity arises.
“Whether it will happen in the winter or next summer is hard to say - it depends on what opportunities come up. I’m quite sure the club understands this is the last chance. But the right offer has to come, because I’m doing well at the club and getting along here."
“If I end up playing zero minutes, I might look elsewhere. But if things continue as they have and nothing shows up in the winter, I don’t mind letting my contract run out."
An extension beyond the summer of 2026 currently seems unlikely.
“You should never say never, but it looks like I won’t extend my contract. You never know in football, but that’s the current direction of the talks," admitted the striker.
When asked about the possibility of returning to his former club FC Copenhagen, Wind said:
“FC Copenhagen will always be attractive to me, at least emotionally. I’ve often thought it would be cool to go back, and I hope it happens one day, but it’s doubtful if it will happen in the near future. I don't think so at the moment, but you should never say never.
“I still have some dreams I want to accomplish abroad, and I hope to make an exciting transfer within the next six months.”
Wind has previously exclusively told Bulinews.com that a move to the English Premier League would appeal to him.
“If we look into the future, Arsenal would be a dream destination for me, as it has always been my favourite club. In general, I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and it would be exciting to play there," he said in 2022.
