Oxford United boss Des Buckingham is of the opinion that Stoke City have managed to assemble a squad with exciting young, talented players and added that the Potters are playing a good brand of football.

After a disappointing last campaign, under the leadership of Steven Schumcher, the Potters delved deep in the market to sign a host of players this summer to strengthen the team.

Buckingham, who spent one season at Stoke during the 2017/18 season as a coach, stressed the excellent on and off-field facilities the club have for their players.

The Oxford boss thinks that Schumacher has a young and exciting team at his disposal and pointed out that they are playing a good brand of football.

However, he believes that if the U’s can play the way they have played so far and with the backing of Oxford’s home fans on Saturday, they can defeat Stoke City.

“We know it is a good club and they have been a Premier League club the same as a lot of the teams in this league in the most recent years”, Buckingham told Oxford United’s media.

“I know first-hand working there for a season the set up they have on the field and the set up they have off the field.

“They have got a really good manager and they have assembled a really good young and exciting team who play a good brand of football, so we are expecting a good game.

“We will set ourselves up to position ourselves as well as we can firstly to perform and if we can show what we have done certainly on those first four games and with the backend of the home support that we have certainly had in those two home games, we will put ourselves in the best position to come away with a result.”

Stoke have failed to beat Oxford in their last three meetings and they will be determined to register a win on Saturday to continue their winning momentum.
