“They love a choke,” Sutton’s dig at title bottle merchants Rangers

The result came after Martin O’Neill’s men targeted maximum points to strengthen their position near the top of the Scottish Premiership and reduce the deficit to three on the league leaders.

Celtic appeared on course for victory while holding a 2-1 lead late in the match, only for defender Auston Trusty to be dismissed in the closing quarter of an hour, shifting the momentum.

Hearts took advantage of the numerical edge to grab a late equaliser courtesy of Claudio Braga, a goal that ultimately saw the spoils shared and allowed theRangers to move ahead of Celtic in the table, dropping O’Neill’s side into third.

Despite the shift in the table, Sutton suggested the pressure now lies elsewhere. Speaking after the game, he referenced theRangers’ past struggles when attempting to capitalise on title opportunities, warning that history has a habit of repeating itself as the title race intensifies with 15 games to play.

Speaking on BBC’s 606 programme on Sunday night, Sutton said: ”I mean, they won today against Dundee. You expected them to win, but I mean, (the)Rangers fans must be getting excited, but they do sort of have it in their DNA where they choke as well. But they have done historically, you know, in recent times, they love a choke.”

In other news, Celtic are set to contest the dismissal of Auston Trusty from their weekend Scottish Premiership outing against Hearts, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The centre-back was first shown a yellow card after challenging Pierre Landry Kabore as the forward chased a ball played in behind Celtic’s defence.

Following intervention from John Beaton on VAR, McLean was instructed to review the incident on the pitchside monitor. After reassessing the challenge, the decision was upgraded to a red card on the grounds that a clear goalscoring opportunity had been prevented.

The Scottish FA has since confirmed that Celtic’s appeal will be considered at a disciplinary hearing scheduled for today.
