Quentin Merlin (22) has laid out a challenge for Paris Saint-Germain with the Olympique de Marseille defender believing that his club have what it takes to topple France’s predominant force. The left-back who has occasionally played as a midfielder for Marseille under new manager Roberto De Zerbi was speaking at a press conference after being called up to the France u21s this week.

The defender revealed Marseille’s aims for the season stating “Our goal is to go as far as possible, we have ambitions, with the Champions League being the objective. If we can go and test PSG… They’re not invincible, even if they remain a good team. We have the capacity to cause them problems, to hang on to them, but we have to remain humble. It’s up to us to perform, to continue to have results, and to be consistent.”

Marseille have recorded a bright start to life under De Zerbi. The club are unbeaten in the league having won twice (5-1 against Stade Brestois and 3-1 against Toulouse FC) and drawn once (2-2 at home to Stade de Reims). This leaves the club in second place to PSG who have won all their games so far.
