A special player like Thiago Almada has a special goal catalogue during his time with Atlanta United in Major League Soccer.
The 2022 World Cup winner stole the show during his time in Atlanta with stunning free kicks, long-range golazos and solo goals in which he put the team on his back. Almada is destined to star in Europe eventually after his confirmed transfer to Botafogo, and he no doubt left his mark on Major League Soccer by striking fear into the hearts of opposing defenders and goalkeepers.
Here are Thiago Almada's five best goals scored in an Atlanta United shirt.
In Almada's second-to-last appearance for Atlanta, he made sure to do everything in his power to propel the Five Stripes to victory with this stunning solo run. After receiving the ball near the touchline, the Argentinian danced through would-be defenders in the DC United midfield and defense before curling a long-range effort home to seal three points for Atlanta.
Atlanta's opening match of the 2023 MLS season was full of drama, chaos and most importantly, three points for the 2018 MLS Cup winners. It was Almada who was at the center of it all in stoppage time, as this stunner in the 93rd minute brought the game to level terms before he put the team in front minutes later.
Just minutes after launching a strike into the top corner from a corner kick, Almada then did the unthinkable with enormous amounts of pressure on his shoulders. The former Velez Sarsfield player stepped up to perfectly place a free kick into the top corner, wrapping up all three points in style for Atlanta to kick-off the 2023 campaign.
Almada's first-ever goal for the Five Stripes just so happened to be named MLS goal of the week during a 3-3 draw vs CF Montreal back in 2022, his first season in the league. It was certainly some way for the versatile attacker to score his first goal for Atlanta as would go on to rack up numerous long-range efforts during his time at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Almada's free kick vs Portland Timbers last season is something that is just out of this world. Many in the stands probably didn't think Almada would've been able to pose a threat from that far out -- but he clearly though otherwise. Almada would go on to back another goal and two assists in Atlanta's 5-1 thrashing of the Timbers.
