Former Flamengo right-back Thiago Ennes has joined Santa Cruz, newly promoted to the Brazilian third tier. According to Coluna Do Fla, the 30-year-old has been unveiled by the Pernambuco club.
He described the move as the opportunity of his life, saying he was eager to arrive as soon as his agent called, and told supporters they could rely on total commitment on the pitch.
Last year he played for Caxias, who led Série C but fell short in the final quadrangular. Acknowledging the size of the challenge, he now seeks a different outcome with Santa Cruz and believes they can have a strong year and push back to Série B.
Ennes was a standout in Flamengo’s Copinha-winning side a decade ago alongside Lucas Paquetá. On 25 January 2016, Corinthians went 2-0 up in the final at Pacaembu, Flamengo levelled to 2-2, then Paquetá and Ennes scored in the shootout as the Rio club lifted the trophy.
Despite that youth success, Ennes never played for Flamengo’s first team. Under contract in 2017 he was loaned to União Madeira in Portugal and Cuiabá, later signing for Náutico. After leaving in 2019 he featured for São Bernardo, Confiança, Remo, Santo André, Sampaio Corrêa, Paysandu, Campinense, Londrina and Caxias.
