According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, four players left Villarreal in the winter window to find minutes elsewhere, and so far they are making encouraging starts.

One of the standout cases is Thiago Fernández, who arrived from Vélez this month then left on loan to Real Oviedo after a long lay-off. On Saturday he returned to action after 425 days at the Carlos Tartiere, and within 27 minutes he set up Ilyas Chaira for the game’s only goal and an Oviedo win.

Manor Solomon also impressed, starting for Fiorentina and scoring their only goal in defeat to Napoli. The Israeli has featured more in recent weeks and is adding minutes and confidence in Italy.

Ilias Akhomach, loaned to Rayo Vallecano after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, has settled quickly. He played the second half in the previous round, then started against Real Madrid, going off in the 84th minute after his team were reduced in numbers.

Adrià Altimira has found continuity at Deportivo de la Coruña. The Catalan right-back has featured in the six matches for which he has been available, and has established himself as first-choice on the right.
