Thiago Motta reveals which Juventus player he regrets selling: ‘We made a mistake’ | OneFootball

Former Juventus head coach Thiago Motta has explained that the decision to let some of his first-team players leave this season was down to ‘economic’ and ‘technical’ reasons, and has revealed which player he ‘made a mistake’ with.

The former Juventus head coach, who was dismissed and replaced by Igor Tudor in March, gave a bombshell interview to Il Corriere della Sera, published on Saturday.

Among various topics of discussion, Motta also discussed some of the players he and the recruitment staff decided to get rid of during his tenure.

Among them was homegrown talents Moise Kean and Nicolo Fagioli, who have since gone on to carve out starting positions under Raffaele Palladino at Fiorentina. Motta admits that there were ‘economic’ and ‘technical’ motivations behind those decisions.

“Those were economic choices, not just technical ones,” Motta said. “Obviously, the club didn’t know at the start of the season that Milik would never be available. When Kolo Muani arrived, he made a big contribution.

“Fagioli started well with us, but then went on a rough patch, so the club and I agreed he should have a new experience. I hope Fagioli can continue to grow as they are doing.”

Motta also revealed that Hans Nicolussi Caviglia is the player he has the most regrets over. The 24-year-old was moved on to Venezia on loan with an obligation to buy during the summer transfer window.

“One player we made a mistake not keeping with us is Nicolussi Caviglia, who is showing great quality.”
