Thiago Scuro’s position at Monaco weakened

According to a report from Foot Mercato, Thiago Scuro’s position as CEO of AS Monaco has been weakened following a mix of poor results, recurrent injuries, and a failed summer transfer window. The French outlet writes that while Scuro’s role at the club is not under immediate threat, he is being questioned internally.

Monaco have not won in Ligue 1 since the 29th of November when they defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0. A run of four defeats in a row in the league was ended on the weekend, albeit with a disappointing goalless draw against Le Havre.

Monaco set out this season to build on last season’s third-place finish, but find themselves in 10th, and with a points tally that puts them closer to the relegation zone than the UEFA Champions League places.

The club took gambles in the summer transfer window, selling a host of assets, including Ben Seghir, Wilfried Singo, and Breel Embolo, to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, while the incomings have not paid off with Ansu Fati struggling and criticised for a perceived lack of commitment, while Paul Pogba, Eric Dier, and Lukas Hradeck have missed large chunks of the season due to injury.

Foot Mercato explains that Scuro will likely not be sacked with the transfer window shutting imminently and Monaco in desperate need to fix their current predicament, but there is a “serious” discussion ongoing regarding his future.
