The operation was lightning-fast: Thiago Silva was announced this Saturday as a new signing for FC Porto and will wear the Dragons’ number 3 jersey.

Although it does not have the same impact as the number 2 jersey, which remains vacant, the number 3 also carries a particular symbolism, especially since it was worn by the European champion in Gelsenkirchen, Pedro Emanuel. Before retiring from the pitch and embracing a coaching career, the former central defender handed the number 3 jersey to Raul Meireles, in a symbolic gesture that helped elevate this number at FC Porto.
