Ligue 2 side Le Mans have welcomed a new investor in the form of Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Six months ago, Le Mans welcomed Brazilian fund Outfield, who became a minority investor in the club. The likes of Novak Djokovic, Felipe Massa, and Kevin Magnussen are already shareholders at the Ligue 2 club, who this season are in the hunt for promotion to Ligue 1.

Outfield, initially a minority shareholder, will now become the majority owner of the club. Thierry Gomez, the previous majority shareholder, will retain a minority share and will also remain in his post as the president. Courtois will arrive at the club through the investment consortium, NxtPlay.

There is an ambition to grow the club, which could happen through promotion to the top-flight (Le Mans are currently fifth in Ligue 2), but also through improving the situation off the field. L’Équipe understands that the club are looking to purchase their training centre from the local authorities, whilst there is also an ambition to reopen their new academy ahead of the start of next season.
