Gunners legend unfazed by recent dip in form
Thierry Henry believes Arsenal remain well-placed in the Premier League title race despite dropping points at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, insisting that Mikel Arteta will soon repay the faith paid to him by the club.
The Gunners were far from their best as they were held to a goalless draw at the City Ground, but their advantage in the title race was not harmed as their closest rivals, Manchester City and Aston Villa, were beaten by Man United and Everton, respectively.
They remain atop the Premier League, then, with a seven-point cushion and 16 matches left to play.
While Henry, who won the league with Arsenal in 2001-02 and 2003-04, was disappointed with the result at Forest, he insists Arsenal are in a comfortable position.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “I thought at the time, yes, we did drop some points, but then with Villa not winning against Everton, you find yourself in a position where if no-one wants to run with us, you have to take what you have to take.
“Seven points ahead is a massive advantage, and I know it could have been nine, it could have been more.”
He continued, adding that Arsenal were right to keep faith in Arteta.
“You have two teams that could be in the top four, you put money on the table, we kept our coach, and we see a lot of coaches getting the sack, or people don’t trust them. It looks like we were right to keep (Arteta).
“He is doing extremely well. I’ll repeat myself, you put your money on the table and we are seven points ahead.
“We are doing extremely well. We asked Mikel Arteta to find a way to be above Liverpool and Man City. If they are not following with Villa, that is on them.
“Look at what you are doing, and what you can do, however you want to do it.
“I know a lot of people are talking about set-pieces and not creating a lot of chances, and whatnot. We asked him to find a way to win. That is what he is doing.”
