Nantes owner and president Waldemar Kita has refuted suggestions that Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold could buy the club.

Reputable French outlet L'Equipe reported earlier this week that Alexander-Arnold and his family have held talks regarding a takeover of the Ligue 1 side, with an £84m offer rejected.

But in an interview with Presse-Oceane, club chief Kita came out strongly against such suggestions.

"This is all bull****!" Kita said. "Where does that come from? How do you expect a serious man who wants to purchase a club to use a journalist? Trent Alexander-Arnold? But I don't even know him!"

"[Kita's lawyer] told me his father was involved in finance and that they have players as well as agents. I've never done any video conference with anyone, ever. It's nonsense. How can you even in this business, with such sums?

"When I sold my company (Vivacy), no one was in the know, not even the personnel. That's business. It's a ploy to hurt and disrupt. It's not serious."

It has been suggested that Nantes may address ongoing takeover speculation in the coming days.

Alexander-Arnold is no stranger to investing in sports teams as he has already purchased a stake in the Alpine Formula One team. His father manages an investment fund on his behalf, while his brother is a director at the PLG agency.

Though he is considering his options off the field, Alexander-Arnold's future remains up in the air on it, with his Liverpool contract set to expire in 2025.
