Acheampong’s performance in Italy was one of the only positives for Chelsea to take from the game, and he performed very well at right back.

Chelsea fans have been wanting the 19-year-old to feature more regularly, but so far Maresca has resisted the calls to play the youngster on a more regular basis.

With the games coming thick and fast in the build up to Christmas, and the Blues still competing on four fronts, Acheampong should expect more opportunities in the coming weeks.

However, Maresca has previously told Acheampong he would need to patient, and has repeated that message ahead of Saturday’s game with Everton.

“And the good thing about Josh is that in the moment that we give him the chance, he’s always doing well,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“And this is the reason why I said many times that for him, he is going to be a big player for this club.

“It just matters to be patient, wait the right moment, and also in the moment that you continue to perform in the way he’s doing, probably he’s going to have more chances, chances, chances.”

Wesley Fofana fit and available for Everton game

Whilst Acheampong can expect more opportunities in the coming games, Chelsea have been handed an injury boost.

Maresca confirmed Wesley Fofana is available to face Everton after being forced off against Atalanta after taking a boot to the face.

Fofana will likely partner Trevoh Chalobah in the Chelsea defence, with the duo forming a good partnership, and the Blues will need them to be at their best against an in form Everton side who sit just one point behind them.
