Mikel Obi believes Arsenal remain the team to beat in the Premier League after the Gunners won the league title last season and reached the Champions League final.

They patiently built one of the strongest teams in Europe by trusting Mikel Arteta to rebuild the squad and change the culture he inherited when he took charge at the end of 2019.

The manager is now one of the most sought-after coaches in football, and that is partly because his team has been in excellent form over the last few seasons. Arsenal continue to support him as much as possible to ensure his side can compete for and win more trophies.

Arsenal’s stability could prove crucial

Arsenal’s rivals have significantly strengthened their squads this summer, but many of them have new managers, meaning the Gunners are the team with the greatest stability and could have an advantage in the title race.

Chelsea icon Obi has now spoken about the season ahead and admits it is difficult to predict which team will become English champions, but he believes Arsenal remain the real deal.

According to the Metro, the former midfielder said: “Wow, the team to beat? There are so many teams.

Obi backs Arsenal for success

“The good thing that you can say about this season is it is absolutely wide open, absolutely f***ing wide open, apart from Arsenal.

“Apart from Arsenal… you can say [with Arsenal] that this is the team right now.

“They’re settled, they have a manager who has been there for so many years, he’s built a team and a squad that has gone on to win the Premier League.”

Obi’s comments highlight the importance of Arsenal’s continuity compared with several of their competitors. While other clubs have made major changes, the Gunners enter the campaign with a clear structure and a manager who has already developed a strong foundation.

With their squad development and Arteta’s influence continuing to grow, Arsenal will be expected to compete strongly once again as they look to defend their Premier League crown.
