A week of landmark Lazio moments is marked by big wins and the legacy of Alfredo Foni. According to The Laziali, the highlights include a pivotal 1984 fightback against Genoa.

On 30 January 1949, the Biancocelesti edged Lucchese 2-1 through Gino Penzo and Luciano Magrini, then on 31 January 1993, beat Sampdoria 2-1 via Karl-Heinz Riedle and Giovanni Stroppa.

On 1 February 2012, Lazio defended stoutly then struck late to defeat Milan 2-0 via Hernanes and Tommaso Rocchi.

Match in focus, 29 January 1984, Lazio 2-1 Genoa. Genoa, depleted, began better, Roberto Policano hit the bar on 10 minutes, while Manfredonia and Gabriele Podavini drove Lazio on.

Mileti put Genoa ahead on 41. Lazio levelled on 57, Manfredonia chesting a left-sided free-kick and finishing. On 67, Laudrup crossed, Meluso flicked on, Manfredonia was fouled, and D’Amico scored the penalty. Genoa pushed, Mileti was denied on 72, then Orsi saved from Benedetti. Lazio won 2-1, a crucial, slightly flattering result.

Foni, born in Udine on 20 January 1911, joined Lazio in 1929 before a decorated Juventus spell that included the 1935 Scudetto. He won 23 Italy caps, captained the 1936 Olympic champions, later won the World Cup as Italy beat Hungary 4-2, coached Inter to the 1953 and 1954 titles, lifted the 1961 Fairs Cup with Roma, and died on 28 January 1985.
