Thomas Didillon-Hödl and Kylian Mbappé headline our French XI of the weekend, set up in a 3-4-2-1. According to L'Équipe, Didillon-Hödl delivered promotion while Mbappé retained Spain’s Pichichi.
Didillon-Hödl sent Willem II up via a play-off against Volendam, 3-3 over two legs, 5-4 on penalties. He saved the second visiting effort, then buried his side’s fifth to settle the shootout.
He said he had practised spot-kicks the previous day, felt confident and thought of his week-old daughter, adding that football is only a game.
Nordi Mukiele anchored Sunderland’s Europa League-clinching 2-1 win over Chelsea from centre back, posting three shots, five clearances, eight recoveries and four interceptions. Enzo Le Fée also impressed, his corner provoking Malo Gusto’s own goal via a Brian Brobbey flick.
Andy Diouf ignited Inter’s 3-3 at Bologna, a shot off the post teed up Pio Esposito on 64 minutes before Diouf thundered in the equaliser on 86.
Como secured a Champions League spot by beating Cremonese 4-1, captain Lucas Da Cunha converting a 74-minute penalty then rifling in an 81-minute cross-shot.
Kenji Mboma hit two in Cincinnati’s 6-2 against Orlando City, heading the 1-1 on 42 minutes before making it 3-2 on 52 with a firm finish.
Mbappé closed Madrid’s league campaign with his 25th on 51 minutes in a 4-2 win over Athletic Bilbao, sealing a second Pichichi. Booed again, he then missed on 62 and now joins France for the World Cup, 11 June to 19 July.
