Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has slammed the fans for their “unacceptable” actions during the frustrating 2-1 home defeat against Fulham.

Spurs have been in miserable form over the past month, but couldn’t find any reprieve on home turf against a side that had lost five of their six away games (D1) before kick-off.

Tottenham came into this game hoping to recapture their winning formula, having failed to win any of their previous three games in all competitions (D1, L2).

They had also suffered back-to-back heavy defeats against Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, so Frank’s side desperately needed a win to lift the morale in the dressing room.

However, Tottenham capitulated inside the opening six minutes of the game.

Spurs were pegged back in the fourth minute when Kenny Tete’s deflected effort left Guglielmo Vicario rooted to the spot.

Then a howler from the Italian goalkeeper gifted Fulham their second just two minutes later.

Vicario came rushing miles away from his goal to clear a loose ball, but snatched at his clearance, allowing Harry Wilson to arrow his shot into an empty net.

Vicario’s error drew audible disgust from the Tottenham fans, who were booing him during the game.

However, a defiant Frank leaped to the defence of the Italian goalkeeper and slammed the fans for turning on him during the game.

“When you’re down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb,” Frank said (via BBC).

“When you’re in a bad spell, everything seems to go against you as well – the first was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from Vic [Guglielmo Vicario].

“I didn’t like that our fans booed at him straight after and a few times after that.

“They can’t be true Tottenham fans because everyone supports each other when you’re on the pitch, and we do everything we can to perform.

“I’m fine with them booing after the match, no problem, but not during. That is unacceptable in my opinion.”

Tottenham have now lost four of their seven home games this season (D1, L2).

Since the 3-0 win against Burnley on opening day, Spurs have failed to win any of the subsequent six outings at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (D2, L4).

Tottenham have now slipped down to 10th in the Premier League table, but their ranking could be worse after Sunday’s run of games.

Frank still has the backing of the Tottenham board, but he could be out of a job soon if he doesn’t find a way to pull the club out of their rut.
