Thomas Kessler promoted to sporting managing director at 1. FC Köln

Thomas Kessler has been promoted to sporting managing director at 1. FC Köln as the club sets out a three-strong management team.
According to BuLi News, Kessler has signed a new contract until 2028 and steps up from sporting director. The 40-year-old will oversee the men’s team and scouting, and also take charge of the women’s side, the sporting and administrative areas of the academy, and the medical department.
Kessler called the step a privilege and a significant responsibility. He added that, after shaping a clear sporting direction and structure in recent months, the task is to bring those ideas to life and develop them sustainably.
Philipp Türoff has been appointed commercial managing director and spokesperson for the management board, with his contract extended until 2029.
Philipp Liesenfeld, under contract until 2028, completes the trio as marketing and sales managing director.
