Thomas Partey faces trial in November after being charged with rape and sexual assault and now the Crown Prosecution Service has released a fresh statement on the former Arsenal star.
Partey, who now plays for Villarreal in Spain after leaving the Emirates as a free agent in the summer, was charged four days after leaving the Gunners for allegedly raping two women and sexually assaulting a third.
Partey will go to trial in November after denying those alleged offences, which took place between 2021 and 2022 when he was a regular in the Arsenal first team.
During an appearance at Southwark Crown Court in September 2025, Partey pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one charge of sexual assault.
The 32-year-old has now been charged with two further counts of rape by the CPS, whose statement read: “These new charges relate to a separate report of non-recent offences in 2020 involving one additional woman and follow a new investigation by the Metropolitan Police. These allegations were first reported in August 2025.”
The fresh counts will see the Ghana international appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 13.
Partey’s bail conditions mean he’s barred from contacting any of the women to have made the allegations but he’s still allowed to play professional football and looks set to head to North America this summer for the 2026 World Cup, and likely play England in Boston on June 23.
The midfielder signed a one-year contract when he joined Villarreal in the summer and will likely become a free agent at the end of the season after starting just seven La Liga games for the Spanish club and on the basis of a pretty scathing assessment of his performances from manager Marcelino Garcia Toral.
Toral said: “I think there’s a world of difference between the Thomas we knew at Arsenal and this one. A world of difference.
“It’s very difficult to play at this pace in today’s football. So, I think it’s been six months now, and that’s enough time for this player to show us what he was or what he’s showing now.”
