Tuchel happy for England to play March friendlies at Wembley after dig at supporters

Thomas Tuchel is happy for England’s friendlies in March to be played at Wembley, despite criticising the atmosphere during Thursday’s 3-0 win over Wales.

His predecessor Gareth Southgate was eager to take the team on the road to different parts of the country to experience different atmospheres during his time in charge.

England are due to play two friendlies in March as they gear up to next summer’s World Cup, but Tuchel does not want one of them to be away from Wembley.

“No, no. Don’t make a big thing out of it,” he said. “I am pretty sure we will play here and no problem.

“We don’t need to make a big thing. Today I thought that the team deserved… I thought like ‘wow, come on’, we have a kind of a derby, a lot of spectators from Wales and we are 3-0 up and we have ball-win after ball-win, chance, another ball-win, another attack.

“I felt like the boys and team deserved a bit more of a spark and in the second half they could have helped us. They should not under-estimate how much it helps sometimes if the game goes a bit flat.

“Like if they keep the thing going again it could help us and then we would have maybe scored and regained energy. It is give and take. That is for today.

“I loved the support in Serbia and I am sure we will have top support in Latvia and of course once we arrive at the World Cup it will be outstanding.”
