Lille have missed the opportunity to leapfrog AS Monaco on goal difference into Ligue 1’s third place following Les Monégasques‘ away 2-2 draw at Nantes. Unfortunately, Bruno Genesio’s Les Dogues have failed to break Auxerre’s resolve and have to contend with a single point (0-0), despite the Yonne team being reduced to ten men. Auxerre goalie Théo de Porcin arguably put in a MOTM performance, notably parrying Jonathan David’s penalty kick. Genesio was less than impressed, questioning his players’ desire, and hints at personnel change in the context of the winter transfer window.
“We haven’t done enough. It’s very disappointing and I’m disappointed with what we showed“, Genesio told DAZN. “There is a transfer window. Either one way or the other, decisions will have to be made. I will talk about it with my president after the match.” Asked again on the matter, the 58-year-old Genesio remained tight-lipped regarding the Lille players he was talking about. “I’ll be clear. Those who want to play for Lille should clearly say it. Those who don’t want, or don’t want it enough, also have to say so, so that we can make adjustments with the president.”
Lille won’t have much time to ponder. They travel to Marseille on Tuesday to face Roberto De Zerbi’s OM in the Coupe de France RO32.
