Three Chelsea stars picked for Team of the Tournament – but Joao Pedro misses on a technicality

Chelsea have won the Club World Cup and return to London in glory.

The Blues really swept all before them in the end, bar one wobble against Flamengo. Their relatively easy run to the final convinced us all that they weren’t as good as they had looked – instead they were far better. They put in their best performance in months, perhaps years, against a PSG team that just couldn’t get into gear fast enough.

The Blues blew away the Parisians and hadn’t looked much troubled in the semi or quarter finals either. The addition of Joao Pedro gave an extra goal threat to a team that was otherwise already humming, and we didn’t look back from that point.

The WhoScored team of the tournament has 3 Chelsea players in it. You can see the team in the image embedded here.

The team of the tournament for the Club World Cup.

Players had to have 4 or more appearances, which ruled out Joao Pedro from contention, but otherwise we’re pretty happy with the showing.

It’s nice to have a spread, with teams like Botafogo and Monterrey rewarded for some good performances rather than a side made up of 100% Chelsea and PSG players just because they made the final.

Chelsea’s 3 features in TOTT

Cole Palmer deserves a place in the team based on the final alone – he scored two and assisted one in a total masterclass.

Pedro Neto was the dangerman in the early games of the tournament especially, and also is in contention for our best performer. With a Conference League, a Nations League and a Club World Cup medal in his pocket, it’s been a crazy couple of months for the winger.

Marc Cucurella was solid as ever, and saved his best for last with a superb showing last night.
