Three people died during celebrations of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League triumph, the Paris prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday.
On Saturday night in the fifth arrondissement, a man born in Rwanda in 1997 reportedly jumped into the Seine. He was pulled out by the fire brigade’s river unit and taken to Hôtel-Dieu in critical condition, then died on Tuesday.
On Sunday morning another man was found dead in the Seine near Pont Louis-Philippe. He is thought to have entered the water near Pont-au-Change and could not be revived. Separate investigations are under way into both river deaths.
A third man died in a motorcycle crash on the Paris ring road during the same night of celebrations, after other individuals removed no-entry signage.
The night also saw unrest across parts of the city, with the extent of property damage yet to be confirmed. Street furniture was damaged, businesses were looted and police came under attack. There were 890 arrests, 178 officers injured and just over 200 participants hurt.
