Everton are in the market for a new right-back, with the Merseyside outfit keen on plugging a key gap in the squad.
Seamus Coleman is entering the twilight of his career, and Nathan Patterson has failed to shrug off injuries.
The Toffees desperately need to sign a top-quality right-back.
Read on as we analyse three potential candidates Everton should be targeting to fill the right-back position.
Everton have been linked with a move for Arsenal’s centre-half/right-back Ben White, and on paper, he looks like the ideal Moyes signing for the position.
White is a solid defender and has improved tremendously going forward. He is also a “big personality” in the dressing room.
An injury kept him out for a chunk of the season, allowing Jurrien Timber to usurp his starting berth.
The Toffees are interested in seizing the opportunity to pounce on his signature.
Securing European football will improve their chances of capturing the experienced England international.
However, it remains unclear if the Gunners will sanction a sale to Everton. He is one of the best in the world in his position, and they might be reluctant to let him leave.
A similar right-back/centre-half profile Everton should be scouting is Chelsea’s Josh Acheampong.
Acheampong broke out last season, playing a bit-part role as they won the FIFA Club World Cup and Europa Conference League.
He has made 25 appearances this term and will be eager for more playing time.
His path at Chelsea is blocked, and the Toffees should position themselves ahead of the queue to snap him up.
The 19-year-old, with his size and frame, can be a stellar addition. His engine and ability to motor up and down will give Moyes a serious weapon.
Manchester City’s Rico Lewis signed a new deal at the beginning of the season, but has struggled for regular playing time.
He cannot push Matheus Nunes out of the starting line-up and might be open to leaving for playing time. Everton could be the perfect destination.
His attacking thrust will give Everton more dynamism, and his ability to deputise in midfield might come in handy. He is a very “intelligent” player.
Defensively, he is still suspect, but if there is any manager who can improve that aspect of his game, it is Moyes.
