Since taking charge of Barcelona in the summer of 2024, Hansi Flick has not only reshaped the team’s tactical identity but also revived one of the club’s most cherished traditions – trusting youth.

Barcelona’s philosophy has always revolved around La Masia, but under Flick, that belief has been re-energised with real intent.

The German coach has handed first-team debuts to as many as 12 academy players, showing his commitment to building a sustainable future while remaining competitive at the highest level.

One of the latest examples came in Europe this season, when young talent Xavi Espart was given his senior debut during a crucial UEFA Champions League knockout clash against Newcastle United.

It was another strong signal that Flick is not afraid to trust youth on the biggest stage.

Names like Marc Bernal and Gerard Martín have already taken that leap and established themselves as reliable first-team options.

Now, as Barcelona look ahead to the 2026/27 season, the expectation is that more young stars are ready to follow.

On that note, here are three La Masia prospects who appear perfectly positioned to break through under Flick next season.

Tommy Marques: Drawing Frenkie de Jong comparisons

At just 19, Tommy Marques has already become one of the most talked-about names within the Barcelona setup.

The midfielder caught attention earlier this year when he made his first-team debut against Mallorca.

Despite being included in several matchday squads since then, opportunities have remained limited, with that appearance being his only senior outing so far.

What truly elevates the hype around Marques, however, is the nature of comparisons being made.

Within the club, there is a growing belief that his profile mirrors that of Frenkie de Jong – a player known for his composure, ball-carrying ability, and intelligence in tight spaces.

While he still needs consistent minutes to develop, there is increasing optimism that next season could be his breakthrough campaign.

Flick’s willingness to trust technically gifted midfielders could play directly into Marques’ hands, especially in a system that values control and progression from deep areas.

Ebrima Tunkara: The next Lamine Yamal in the making?

At only 16 years of age, Ebrima Tunkara is already generating serious excitement across La Masia.

The attacking midfielder is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in his age group and is already playing above his natural level, which is a clear indicator of how highly he is rated internally.

His development path is drawing parallels with Lamine Yamal, who rose rapidly through the ranks to become a first-team regular.

Tunkara operates primarily as a left-footed No. 10, a profile that naturally stands out.

ut what truly sets him apart is his confidence on the ball and his ability to dictate play in advanced areas, traits rarely seen in players of his age.

It is important to note that he is not being labelled as a replica of Yamal. Instead, he shares similar early signs, which include composure, technical clarity, and the courage to take responsibility in decisive moments.

While regular first-team minutes may still be some distance away, do not be surprised if Flick offers him a glimpse of senior football next season.

Juan Hernandez: The versatile weapon

Among the emerging names, Juan Hernandez might just be the most tactically useful for Flick.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder offers something every modern manager values – versatility.

Comfortable playing deeper in midfield or operating from the left wing, Hernandez provides multiple solutions within a single profile.

Since joining La Masia in 2020, he has steadily progressed through the ranks, and this season has offered clear evidence of his development.

Competing in Segunda Federación, he has contributed four goals and four assists.

More importantly, he has already caught Flick’s attention, having been invited to train with the first team earlier this season.

That exposure often serves as a stepping stone, especially under a manager who closely monitors youth development.

With his ability to impact games in different roles, Hernandez could emerge as a valuable squad option next season, particularly in a campaign where depth and flexibility will be crucial.
