Three players catching the eye for Girona in La Liga this season

We take a look at three of Girona’s top performers this season as they continue to perform and surprise in La Liga.

Three key players for Girona

1. Artem Dovbyk

Girona paid €7.5m to sign Dovbyk from Dnipro in the summer – a club record fee – and the investment is paying off as he is the team’s top scorer with seven league goals in 13 games this season. Having Ukraine team-mate Viktor Tsygankov at Girona helped the centre-forward make the decision to move to the high-flying La Liga outfit.

2. Sávio

The 19-year-old has been one of the finds of the season. Sávio was signed by CFG sister club Troyes in France’s Ligue 2 from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro for a fee in the region of €7m in 2022. The exciting winger didn’t play for the French side as he went on loan to PSV for the 2022-23 season. His left-wing play – coming inside and going outside – has caused La Liga defences problems all season and he also has an eye for goal. According to sources contacted by Get Spanish Football News, Manchester City have been very impressed by his performances in Spain’s top flight in 2023-24. The Brazilian has five goals and four assists in 14 games across all competitions this season.

3. Viktor Tsygankov

Girona signed Tsygankov in January for €5m after watching his performances with Dynamo Kyiv in the Ukrainian Premier League. Pere Guardiola – who works for the player’s agency, SEG – played a key role in his move to Montilivi. He has scored two goals and provided two assists in 11 league appearances so far this season.

Míchel’s side are in league action on Monday night when they take on Athletic Club at home. A win will see them return to the top of the La Liga table.
