Barcelona now find themselves in a difficult position after suffering a 0-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.
It was a result that not only exposed some weaknesses but also placed immense pressure on the second leg.
Overturning a two-goal deficit is never easy, especially against a defensively solid Atletico side.
Furthermore, the situation becomes even more complicated due to the circumstances surrounding the fixture.
Before travelling to the Metropolitano, Barcelona must first shift their focus to a crucial La Liga clash against Espanyol.
Squad rotation will be necessary, and that could impact rhythm heading into the decisive European night.
Adding to their concerns, Pau Cubarsi will miss the second leg due to suspension, while doubts remain over the fitness of Pedri and Marc Bernal.
These setbacks could significantly affect both defensive stability and midfield control.
However, there are enough reasons for Barcelona to feel that a comeback is still a possibility.
Despite the setback, Barcelona have strong reasons to believe they can still turn this tie around.

One of the biggest positives comes from their recent record against Atletico Madrid.
Hansi Flick’s side has already shown that they can produce big results against Diego Simeone’s team, even in difficult environments.
Just over a year ago, Barcelona managed to overturn a 0-2 deficit at the Metropolitano to secure a remarkable 4-2 victory.
That comeback remains a powerful reminder of what this squad is capable of under pressure.
This season, Barcelona once again demonstrated their ability to respond against Atletico.
After going 0-1 down at Montjuïc in La Liga, they fought back to win 3-1.
Interestingly, that exact scoreline would be enough to force extra time in the current Champions League tie.
There is also the recent Copa del Rey semi-final second leg, where Barcelona secured a dominant 3-0 win.
While that result came in a different context, it still highlights the team’s capacity to deliver when everything clicks.
Another major reason for optimism lies in Barcelona’s ability to recover from losing positions this season.

Simply put, Barcelona have already staged as many as ten comebacks this season across all competitions, including seven in La Liga and three in the Champions League.
That statistic alone proves that Barcelona do not panic under pressure.
More importantly, six of those comebacks came away from home, which is a crucial factor ahead of the second leg in Madrid, as it proves that Barcelona can handle hostile atmospheres and still deliver results.
One of the standout examples remains their thrilling 5-3 victory over Real Betis and matches like that shows the attacking quality within the squad and their ability to outscore opponents even in difficult situations.
That said, European history presents a slight concern.
This is because Barcelona have previously overturned deficits of two or more goals on five occasions out of 12 attempts, but all of those successes came at home.
This time, they must achieve something similar away from their own stadium.
While injuries and suspensions have created problems, there is also a significant boost heading into the second leg.

This is because Frenkie de Jong is set to return, and his presence could play a key role in Barcelona’s chances of a comeback.
The Dutch midfielder offers composure, control, and intelligence in possession – qualities that were clearly missing in the first leg.
Flick is expected to give him minutes against Espanyol to ensure he is fully match-fit for the trip to the Metropolitano.
His presence, especially in the wake of potential absences of Pedri and Marc Bernal, would be a major boost.
Beyond tactics and squad depth, Barcelona will also rely heavily on their emotional response.
The defeat in the first leg clearly affected the players, and that disappointment could act as motivation heading into the return fixture.
This is a squad that has shown resilience throughout the season.
When faced with adversity, they have often responded with strong performances and that mentality will be tested once again at the Metropolitano.
