FC Barcelona faced Mallorca in the first game of the 2025/26 La Liga season and beat them 3–0 at their own ground. However, Hansi Flick was less than pleased with his team’s performance against an opposition that was reduced to 9 men in the first half.
On Saturday night, Flick’s team experienced a mirror image of that first game, where their first-half performance left much to be desired, but the second half saw them play on a different level. The end result was the same, with yet another 3–0 win in the Catalan club’s favour.
Goals from Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, and Marc Bernal helped Barcelona register 18 wins in their last 19 matches. The result allowed the Catalan club to maintain a one-point lead at the top of the table, with Real Madrid also collecting three points away at Mestalla against Valencia.
With all this in mind, here are three talking points for Barcelona as they beat Mallorca 3–0 in La Liga at the Spotify Camp Nou.
1: The Lamine Yamal train keeps on going

After a first half of the season in which Lamine Yamal seemingly played within himself, learning to manage his pubalgia, it looks like he has finally broken free of those shackles, especially in the last month. His performance against Mallorca was yet another example.
The teenager’s wonder goal against Mallorca now makes it seven consecutive games with a direct contribution from his boot. He has also hit double digits in terms of goals in La Liga, showcasing his ever-improving prowess.
As for the goal he scored against Mallorca, it was a thing of beauty. Having missed a sitter in the dying stages of the first half, Lamine was keen to make amends, and he did just that by rifling a long-range shot from the edge of the box.
Lamine might not be the most clinical finisher in football, but his goal catalogue is one that most players would be proud of when they retire. It’s only a matter of time before the routine finishes start coming, and once they do, the Spaniard will become even more unstoppable.
2: Ankara Bernal… Ankara Bernal…
Marc Bernal has long been touted as the second coming of Sergio Busquets at Barcelona. However, the goal he scored against Mallorca reminded everyone of another legend, one who scored many similar goals with the magical left foot of his.
Around the 80th minute, Barcelona had the opportunity to counter through Roony Bardghji and Fermin Lopez, who combined well to find Marc Bernal, who was racing through the space. However, the teenager still had plenty of work to do.
It was the first time in his relatively short first-team career that fans saw Bernal burst into such a position, and what he did next was incredible. He chopped past a couple of defenders and rifled a shot into the near post.
It might seem like an anomaly to see a defensive midfielder show so much composure in front of goal, but Bernal has been blessed with this ability since a young age. The Spaniard scored 280 goals in 286 matches during his time at La Masia, and don’t be surprised to see him pop up with more for the first team in the coming years.
3: A debut for Tommy Marques
Hansi Flick decided to give Frenkie de Jong some much-needed rest against Mallorca. The Dutchman had been covering every blade of grass in his recent performances, but all that comes at the cost of fatigue.
With Barcelona comfortably leading throughout the game, Flick didn’t need Frenkie to come off the bench. Instead, he used that spot to give a debut to Tommy Marques, who has made a lot of squad lists recently.
Barcelona fans might have been forgiven for thinking it was Frenkie coming onto the pitch. Tommy has an uncanny resemblance to the Dutchman, whom he idolizes. Even Hansi Flick conceded that the youngster looks like Frenkie’s younger brother.
Tommy is a deep-lying playmaker who can also play as a right-back, and it looks like Flick has a lot of faith in him. It remains to be seen how things play out for him in the coming weeks and months, and if he gets more opportunities in the first team.
