Villarreal’s Champions League campaign ended on Wednesday with a 3-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that the result confirmed their worst European winless run and poorest away sequence.

It was a fifth straight away defeat and they have gone 460 minutes without an away goal. They did not play in Europe last season and have not scored away for more than two years.

Their last away European goal came from Dani Parejo in December 2023, an 80th-minute strike in a 3-2 win at Stade Rennes in the final matchday of the Europa League’s first phase.

Since then they have lost on the road to Olympique de Marseille 4-0 in the 2023/2024 Europa League last 16, and this season at Tottenham 1-0, Pafos 1-0 and Borussia 4-0.

Across home and away, they are eight European matches without a win, with only a 2-2 home draw against Juventus. Six consecutive losses also match 2011/2012, when they lost all six Champions League group games.

Champions League income stands at 19.9 million euros via UEFA, from 18.62 million fixed, 700,000 for the Juventus point and around 600,000 for finishing 35th.

Now focused on LaLiga EA Sports, the club have their February plan set for the most intense remaining week, when they will make up the Levante fixture postponed due to adverse weather.

They travel to Pamplona this afternoon, with only one defeat in their last five league visits to El Sadar, alongside two draws and two wins.
