West Ham United went into Saturday’s game looking to build on their 2-0 win against Newcastle United.
However, the Hammers fell to a humiliating 5-2 loss to Arsenal at the London Stadium.
West Ham were 4-0 down after 36 minutes, with Gabriel Magalhaes, Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz scoring for the Gunners.
Two goals from Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson Palmieri offered hopes of a stunning comeback for the hosts, but Bukayo Saka scuppered their hopes just before the break.
While there wasn’t much Lukasz Fabianski could have done for the first four goals, he was completely at fault for the Gunners’ last goal.
Fabianski punched Gabriel in the head instead of the ball from a corner, conceding a penalty that was converted by Saka.
The former Poland international denied Martin Odegaard on the hour mark, but he endured a torrid game overall.
Max Kilman also endured a tough outing in front of the home supporters. The summer arrival completely missed his clearance, allowing Havertz to slot home Arsenal’s fourth goal.
The defender won all his ground duels but lost possession on seven occasions and completed just three of his seven long balls.
Lucas Paqueta came into Saturday’s contest on the back of an excellent display against Newcastle, but he completely failed to repeat the feat yesterday.
The Brazilian dangled his leg out to bring down Saka in the box, allowing Odegaard to put his side three goals ahead.
Paqueta also lost possession on six occasions and completed 21 of his 26 passes. He made two fouls and was dribbled past twice.
