Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa had yet another “magical” afternoon in Verona, three years on from his first.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, highlight the symmetry in the Argentine’s improbable star turn.
Correa’s tenure at Inter has hardly lived up to expectations, or the price tag that Inter spent to bring him in from Lazio.
The former Sevilla and Sampdoria forward has struggled really make an impact in much of the time that he’s been a Nerazzurri player.
Injuries and fitness problems have played a role in this undoubtedly.
And there’s just been a seeming lack of sharpness to Correa’s play too often when he’s donned the Inter shirt.
Meanwhile, last season Correa was out on loan at Marseille. He had little to no impact in the south of France and found himself back at Inter.
Correa had gotten his Inter career off to an impressive start, though.
The Argentine had come off the bench in an away match against Hellas Verona to make his very first Nerazzurri appearance.
Correa had only just signed his Inter contract hours earlier. But he was the hero on the day, scoring a brace in the second half to give Inter a 3-1 victory.
That has not been the way that things have gone for Correa at Inter ever since.
But yesterday, the 30-year-old proved once again that the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi just seems to be “magical” for him.
Correa was a surprise selection in the Inter starting eleven. He made his first start of the season for Inter.
And the Argentine could not have done much more to repay Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi’s faith in him.
Correa scored Inter’s opener, made two assists, and hit the crossbar twice.
There was just a sense of magic in the air as Correa celebrated with his teammates.
