Tiago Gabriel has signed a new Lecce contract to June 2030 after interest from Benfica in the summer window, according to Glorioso 1904.
The 21-year-old Portugal under-21 centre-back has been one of Lecce’s standout performers at the start of the Serie A season. The new deal is said to include a significant pay rise.
The renewal was a direct response to sustained approaches during the last window. The contract rewards his first-team status and makes an immediate exit less likely.
Through July and August, several clubs sought information on the defender, with agent Jorge Mendes fielding enquiries from leading sides as Gabriel emerged as one of Italian football’s most promising youngsters.
Benfica’s interest came during a defensive overhaul. Nicolás Otamendi left for River Plate on a free, while António Silva joined Bournemouth for an initial €20 million. The Lisbon club brought in Clément Lenglet and Alessandro Circati in the summer.
Premier League teams also tracked the situation and made informal approaches to Lecce. The Italian club acted first to secure his future.
