Mile Svilar has been one of the stars of the Serie A this season. The Roma goalkeeper has been ridiculous, and has the most clean sheets in Italy this season, often putting out matchwining performances. Speaking to gianlucamarzio.com, Tiago Pinto, who worked with him at Benfica and Roma and is now the sporting director of AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League is full of praise. Svilar joined Benfica two months before Pinto’s arrival and then also moved to Roma when the 37 year old was there. For years, he has been touted as a very promising goalkeeping talent but it has only been this season, that he has really shown his talents in a major way this season, as Roma are currently on a 19 match unbeaten streak. “When I see the saves he (Svilar) makes, I get emotional. At Benfica I called him ‘my Golden boy ‘”. Who deserves the credit for his growth? There is little doubt: ” It’s all his credit, I had nothing to do with it. For me it was obvious that he would become one of the best in the world and it was just a matter of time “, Pinto said. It must be said that the sporting director himself is doing really well too, with Bournemouth still in contention for a European place. The keeper position for the Cherries come next season is still a mystery but Svilar is definitely out of range for a reunion with Pinto now, given his performances this season. “Mile is a very special boy. All the goalkeeping coaches he worked with always told me that he was the best ever. All the players who played with Mile and all the coaches who trained him told me the same thing ”. So what slowed down his exploits? “ He was missing the ‘click’. Because anyone who saw him in training immediately realised that the boy was not normal ”, Pinto recounted. Kaulik Mitra | GIFN
