MONTERREY, Mexico — Tigres UANL Femenil won 4-nil over crosstown rivals CF Monterrey in matchday three of the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champion Cup on Thursday at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolas de los Garza, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
The encounter featured the first Clasico Regio, the derby between the two Monterrey area clubs, on the international stage between ‘Rayadas’ of CF Monterrey, the reigning Liga MX Femenil champions and six-time league champions Tigres UANL.
Maricarmen Reyes opened the scoring in the 23’ with a right-footed shot inside the box to find the bottom left corner of goal.
Jennifer Hermoso struck a header in the 32’ to double the lead for Las Amazonas. Jaqueline Ovalle earned her second assist of the night by sending a cross from the left flank to find the FIFA Women’s World Cup winner at the right post.
Thembi Kgatlana extended the lead for Tigres UANL Femenil in the 45’+2 to place the home side further in the lead before the halftime whistle.
Cristina Ferral delivered the fourth goal of the night in the 70’, positioning the ball with her left foot before providing the finishing touch with her right. Mayor earned her second assist of the evening in getting the ball in the box.
Monterrey captain Rebeca Bernal attempted to cut the deficit off a corner kick in the 90’+3’, but her header went over the crossbar.
Tigres goalkeeper Cecilia Santiago finished the night with her first clean sheet of the W Champions Cup.
Rayadas will host Frazsiers Whip on September 5 in their second game in Group A. Both teams will look to get their first win of the tournament.
Tigres Femenil will travel to Jamaica for their next encounter as visitors for the first time in the tournament. The club will face Frazsiers Whip on Wednesday, September 18 in Kingston.
