The 37-year-old Dutchman, who spent last season at Luton Town, made 330 league appearances in English football and has now called on a professional playing career spanning 19 years.
Joining Newcastle United from ADO Den Haag in his native homeland in the summer of 2005, Krul made his Magpies debut in a UEFA Cup clash against Palermo during the 2006/07 season at the tender age of 18, keeping a memorable clean sheet in a 1-0 away win.
Establishing a regular place between the sticks following Newcastle's promotion to the Premier League as Championship winners in 2009/10, Krul won the club's Player of the Year award in 2011/12, a campaign which the Magpies secured European football following an impressive fifth-place finish in the English top-flight.
Krul's greatest performance in a Newcastle shirt, arguably, came during a 1-0 away win at Tottenham Hotspur during the 2013/14 season after making an incredible 14 stops at White Hart Lane, receiving the Premier League's Player of the Month award for November in the process.
After making 184 competitive outings for the Magpies, including over 150 Premier League matches, he departed St. James' Park for Brighton & Hove Albion in 2017 before joining Norwich City a year later, winning two Championship titles with the Canaries during a five-year spell at Carrow Road.
At international level, Krul accrued 15 senior caps and helped the Netherlands reach the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-finals after his penalty shootout heroics against Costa Rica, saving two spot-kicks after coming off the bench late in extra-time of the quarter-final meeting.
Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Tim the very best in his retirement.
