Tim Skarke joined Union Berlin from Darmstadt on a free transfer ahead of the 2022/23 season. After loan deals at Schalke and Darmstadt, he earned his place at the club. However, the attacker was scoreless in 54 matches until he ended his drought on Friday against RB Leipzig to seal a 3-1 victory.

“For me, it’s very emotional to have scored my first goal today,” said the 29-year-old after the match. “I’m grateful that it happened now. We are very happy that we kept the three points at home.”

Skarke and Union Berlin will end the year away at Köln next weekend. Steffen Baumgart will face his former club at RheinEnergieSTADION. “We won against the strongest team after Bayern. It's also nice that we scored three goals by attacking players,” said Union Berlin’s coach after tonight’s game.
