Time up in Gent for Dante Vanzeir

HLN are reporting that Dante Vanzeir did not travel with the Gent squad to Spain for their winter training camp. The striker is not injured and the club are now looking to find a way to offload Vanzeir this January. The former Union St Gilloise striker only returned to Belgium to join Gent during the winter window of 2025. However, his impact has not been as large as the Buffaloes hoped and with his large wages he is seen expendable.

Cercle Brugge are said to be interested, but wages would prove a stumbling block. However, the clubs have already come to one agreement in recent months, with Pieter Gerkens having his wages covered in order for him to join Cercle Brugge on loan. Cercle could certainly do with a player of Vanzeir’s quality.

Vanzier really made a name for himself in Belgian football while at Union. In 91 games for the club he scored 48 goals, propelling them back into the top flight of Belgian football and fighting for the title. In 2023 he left for the USA and joined MLS side ew York Red Bulls. After 11 goals in 63 games he returned to Belgium. There had been a expectation that Vanzeir would hit the ground running with Gent, but after five goals in 25 games, he appears to be set to leave.
