The New York Red Bulls are reportedly interested in signing Timo Werner from sister club RB Leipzig.
According to GiveMeSport's Major League Soccer insider, Tom Bogert, all parties are working on a deal, with talks currently underway.
Werner is under contract at Leipzig, having spent the previous 18 months on loan at Tottenham. Last season, he started just 10 matches and scored once for Spurs.
The NYRB are looking to go one step further and win the MLS Cup after losing last season's final to the LA Galaxy. With a designated player spot open, signing a player with Werner's experience could be the difference.
The 29-year-old won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 and has scored 24 goals in 57 appearances with the German national team. Additionally, he has registered 153 club goals at the senior level across 446 total appearances for Leipzig, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Stuttgart.
Werner would join Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and former Leipzig teammate Emil Forsberg as the NYRB's third designated player.
The club is currently in a playoff position, sitting seventh in the MLS Eastern Conference after 19 matches played. The league's transfer window opens on July 24.
