Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer has struggled to make much of an impression so far at West Bromwich Albion.

First team breakthrough

The former Brighton and Hove Albion youth player joined United in 2022.

Collyer broke through into the United first team last season under Erik ten Hag, making his senior debut against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

The English midfielder would go on to make 13 appearances in all competitions last year for the Red Devils.

Nonetheless, he was not counted on this season for the senior team and he was sent out on loan to West Brom in the Championship.

Problems

Unfortunately, the loan spell has hardly gone exactly how the player or the club would have wanted.

The midfielder originally struggled to get into the starting line up, with his first month characterised by late substitute appearances in games.

In an even worse change of luck, Collyer picked up a hamstring injury last month against Preston North End.

Manager Ryan Mason highlighted how Collyer has already suffered similar injuries during his career, so the club wants to be extra cautious over the issue.

Injury persists

The Manchester Evening News reports that, “Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer is absent from West Brom training as he recovers from a muscle injury.”

Speaking on the player’s progress the West Brom coach added, “I think there’s loads of room and loads of growth to develop. That’s certainly going to happen on the training pitch. The reality is the game is the best teacher.”

He elaborated, “the more game exposure you can get, the better, especially at a young age. I’m sure and I expect that Toby knows that I believe in him, which for me is super important.”

Collyer has played a total of nine matches for West Brom but only a total of 213 minutes in those matches. He has contributed one assist.

There is currently no timeline on his return as United fans will eagerly await positive updates on his fitness.
