Italy’s sports dailies lead on Atalanta’s Champions League Round of 16 first leg with Bayern, Inter’s cushion at the top, and a top-four forecast that could exclude Juventus and Roma.
Gazzetta suggests Super Bayern arrive with pedigree, yet Atalanta retain hope, noting Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s view that the stadium will be intense and the Bergamo side merit respect. It also hails Inter’s +7 and says Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries are ready for Saturday.
Tuttosport frames Atalanta’s tie as a near impossible assignment for the only Italian side remaining, with Raffaele Palladino calling for a magical night, pushing beyond absences and drawing strength from the fans.
Corriere dello Sport claims Juventus and Roma are out of the Champions League race picture, making Como favourites. It cites Opta’s model with 10 games left and 18 major head-to-heads, as Gian Piero Gasperini visits Cesc Fàbregas on Sunday, assigning 37.78% to Cesc, 34.57% to Lucio and 33.91% to Gian Piero.
Tuttosport stresses Juventus face an imperative to reach the Champions League, with ownership increasing responsibility on coach and players, warning failure could reshape transfers, complicate Spalletti’s future, and make breaking even difficult with Kenan Yildiz’s future uncertain. It also notes Inter’s injuries, with Hakan Calhanoglu out again.
Tuttosport adds Torino are targeting Falcone, identified by Petrachi.
