Clearlake Capital has taken full control of Chelsea after buying the shareholdings of Todd Boehly and Mark Walter on Wednesday.

The club said in a statement that subsidiaries of Clearlake would acquire Boehly’s stake and also buy Walter’s holding, giving the investment firm complete ownership.

Boehly is stepping down as chair of the board, and Walter had been a director. Before the announcement, Clearlake owned 62 percent, with Boehly, Walter and investor Hansjörg Wyss holding the remainder. Wyss remains an important shareholder and partner within the ownership group.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The consortium originally bought Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in May 2022 for around 2.5 billion pounds.

Last month, Walter sold his controlling stake in the Los Angeles Lakers to Bob Iger and Joshua Kushner, a deal valuing the franchise at 12.5 billion dollars. He is also subject to federal and securities investigations in the United States over loans linked to his insurance businesses.

On the same evening, Clearlake also acquired Boehly’s stake in RC Strasbourg to take full ownership. The change does not alter Strasbourg’s strategy or operations, and the current leadership and sporting structure will continue.
