Todd Cantwell return to Norwich City? Canaries told it wouldn't be the 'right fit'

FLW's Norwich City fan pundit believes a Todd Cantwell return to Carrow Road is unlikely

Norwich City looked to be in for a tough year at the beginning of the season, with Liam Manning's tenure going about as bad as it could have gone, but since his departure, everything has changed.

The start of the campaign began uncharacteristically poorly for Norwich, with Liam Manning's time in charge going down like a lead balloon.

With the club embroiled in one of the three relegation spots upon his dismissal, former Monaco and Rangers boss Philippe Clement was chosen to take the reins in Norfolk, and to great effect.

Since his arrival, almost no other side has picked up as many points as the Canaries, waving away any lingering fears of relegation in the process, and instead, looking up.

Whilst the top six seems to be just about out of their reach, there is no denying the Belgian's impact has been impeccable, and is something that Norwich fans will hope can continue into the next campaign.

It looks likely to be a busy summer at Carrow Road, with numerous incomings and outgoings set to occur, though one player in particular has already been told to be snubbed for a return.

A return to Norwich City is unlikely for Todd Cantwell this summer

Todd Cantwell came through the ranks at Norwich before progressing his way to the first team, where he'd enjoy his breakthrough campaign in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season.

Since then, he fell out of favour at Carrow Road and has since spent time with Bournemouth, Rangers, and now Blackburn Rovers, where he looks set to leave at the end of the season with his contract due to expire in 2027, having denied fresh terms.

Football League World's Norwich fan pundit, Zeke, has shared their thoughts on whether they could see the potential return of Cantwell this summer, or whether there is too much water under the bridge at this stage.

Zeke said, "I don't see this one happening at all. We are already covered quite well in the attacking midfield spot with Makama, Ben Slimane and Schwartau, and then Forson as well, and I guess Marcondes. So I don't see this one happening.

"I also think there's a bit too much water under the bridge with him, because when he was with us, he did try to force a move out to Liverpool, I believe.

"I don't think he's got the best reputation from the fans. I don't know how many people would welcome him back.

"But yeah, I don't think that we really need a player like him. We need players who are going to be on it every single game, not like dip in and out of games. So, I don't, I don't think he would be the right fit."

Philippe Clement should avoid a Norwich City reunion with Todd Cantwell

Cantwell and Clement will already know each other well, with the Englishman having made 36 appearances under the Belgian during their time together with Rangers, scoring eight and assisting six in that time.

However, Clement's best course of action may well be to avoid a reunion with the attacking-midfielder this summer, with Cantwell's time at Carrow Road not particularly ending on a high note.

He'd fall out with former Brentford and Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, and would eventually leave the club on a permanent basis to join Rangers.

With Norwich now boasting a plethora of options in the same role as Cantwell, there is simply no need to force a return this summer, and both player and club should leave their time together in the past.

Although there is no doubting Cantwell's ability, at 28, he will be looking for one last big move in his career, and it's unlikely that a return to Norwich would provide that.
