Tsubasa Kumano plans to travel 11,000 kilometres from Tokyo to Seville to follow Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final, despite having no sarrerak for La Cartuja, according to Diario Vasco. He will make the journey via two flights and a train.

The trip begins on Thursday 16 April at Haneda, with a first leg to Shanghai about three hours long. After an undefined stopover he flies to Barajas on Friday 17, almost 14 hours later, then takes an afternoon train to Seville. He returns from Madrid on 22 April and says flights to Europe are complicated now because of the Middle East war.

He is staying with a friend in Seville. He estimates the flights at a little over 1,500 euros and the train at under 100 euros. The journey lasts about 19 hours and he is travelling alone because no supporters’ club members have tickets.

He once went to Nice for a Europa League tie, but says this is the most special. He is eager to enjoy a final with Real supporters in the stands and to get to know the south of Spain.

He expects to watch in the Fan Zone and, if Real Sociedad lift the trophy, to celebrate with plenty of kalimotxo. He sees a cup win as very possible now that Turri and Kubo are back, and he trusts in Matarazzo’s quality on the touchline.

Kumano switches between Spanish and a few words of Basque, and his bond with Gipuzkoa began while studying Architecture at EHU in El Antiguo. He says he fell for the club not only because of Takefusa, but also its academy ethos and the rise of homegrown players such as Turri and Barrenetxea.
