Tolosa’s Plaza Nueva will turn into a fan zone with a big screen for Real Sociedad’s Copa del Rey final in Seville on 18 April. The square will host a family-friendly build-up ahead of the match.

According to Diario Vasco, the Diputación’s Culture and Sports and Sustainability and Mobility departments, in partnership with the council, are staging the event to bring a historic matchday to the town and encourage shared celebration. Similar fan zones are planned in Zarautz, Zumarraga and Lasarte-Oria.

Festivities begin at 17:30 with a txaranga winding through the streets towards Plaza Nueva, the hub for pre-match activity. DJs, inflatables, face-painting and other surprises are planned for supporters of all ages. A giant screen will show Real Sociedad v Atlético de Madrid, kick-off 21:00.

Extra Lurraldebus services are intended to help people from nearby areas travel to Tolosa in a comfortable, affordable, safe and sustainable way. The build-up blends street entertainment with activities for all audiences as Real chase a fourth Copa del Rey.

Strong interest is expected in Tolosa and its surrounding area, where many balconies already display flags backing the team. With the 2021 final played amid the pandemic, the last comparable public gathering in the town dates to 2003, when the team fought for the league title. Now, 23 years on, the big screen returns to Plaza Nueva, and fans will hope to see Mikel Oyarzabal lift the trophy at La Cartuja.
